I just ran across a really interesting site: Typography for Lawyers thanks to the mysterious Mister Thorne via his Twitter account @LyricalReckoner. Typography may seem like a small or obscure thing, but it really is not. Watch the movie Helvetica and you will get a whole new appreciation for how powerful, if subliminal, a message is contained typographical choices. In brief writing, we were in the past limited by the technology - typewriters. With computers, however, we have almost all the choices a professional publisher used to have. What Typography for Lawyers does is give you a solid foundation of basic typography with and emphasis to how you, as a lawyer, can best use it to get your message across. Typography will not win your case for you, but its proper use graphically subtlety supports your competence; poor or sloppy use of typography is a clanging bell of incompetence. I highly recommend this site. It practices what it preaches - it's layout is beautiful, easy to navigate and read. It does a great job getting a non-technical beginner up to speed and you will quickly find yourself taking in the more advanced information there. Check out Typography for Lawyers. - Peter H. Berge
