Here is a great and practical initiative from the ABA's Section on Environment, Energy and Resources "One Million Trees Project - Right Tree for the Right Place at the Right Time."

It seems the pandemic threat is waning, however, there is no reason to sit back comfortably.  It is not "if" it is "when" the next pandemic will happen.  If you are worried that our sociental/governmental response to a flu pandemic, as you should be, might not be any better than our response to Katrina, you are probably right.  Below is a fascinating video from Laurie Garrett, author of "The Coming Plague," from the 2007 TED lectures on what we can learn from the 1918 flu pandemic.  She talks sense and explodes a number of myths:
