Fortune Magazine, via CNNMoney.com is reporting that with layoffs and the recession, LinkedIn is booming: "traffic has more than doubled to 6.9 million users in February from 3.3 million a year earlier." The draw is networking. I've heard it said that in a good economy it's "what you know," in a bad economy it's "who you know," but now it's "how many people do you know." LinkedIn is tapping into that with its emphasis on facilitating business connections. LinkedIn has found a new profitability along with the increased traffic, according to the article. While I have, from first discovering it, liked the professional and business focus of Linked in, it just has never seemed to live up to its potential. LinkedIn still seems like a big electronic business card to me and I am not seeing a lot of networking going on there, but that does not mean it is not happening.
