LinkedIn - Rumors of My Demise are Much Exaggerated!

It wasn't so long ago that many pundits were saying that LinkedIn had been passed by as Facebook and Twitter took off with Baby Boomers, and I have to admit, I was among those.  Perhaps our predictions of LinkedIn's demise were premature.

Fortune Magazine, via CNNMoney.com is reporting that with layoffs and the recession, LinkedIn is booming:  "traffic has more than doubled to 6.9 million users in February from 3.3 million a year earlier."

The draw is networking.  I've heard it said that in a good economy it's "what you know," in a bad economy it's "who you know," but now it's "how many people do you know."  LinkedIn is tapping into that with its emphasis on facilitating business connections.

LinkedIn has found a new profitability along with the increased traffic, according to the article.

While I have, from first discovering it, liked the professional and business focus of Linked in, it just has never seemed to live up to its potential. LinkedIn still seems like a big electronic business card to me and I am not seeing a lot of networking going on there, but that does not mean it is not happening.  I'm certainly going to be keeping my eyes open to see what happens with LinkedIn over the next few months.

Let me know if you are finding LinkedIn useful.
