How to Kick Butt on a Panel

One of the great ways to market yourself is to speak at CLEs (and I'm not saying that just because I plan the Webcasting for Minnesota CLE!).  Who doesn't want to be known as an expert?  Guy Kawasaki, Apple's former "Mac Evangelist," has some great tips about being a good panelist in his How to Change the World Blog.  He should know, has been on a lot of big event panels over the years.

Here is a round-up of his tips:

  1. Know the subject
  2. Control your introduction
  3. Speak Up
  4. Entertain, don't just inform
  5. Tell the truth (especially when the truth is obvious)
  6. Answer the question that is posed, never limit yourself to the question posed
  7. Be plain simple and short
  8. Never look bored
  9. Never look at the moderator
  10. Never say "I agree with [insert name of other panelist]..."
