One of the great ways to market yourself is to speak at CLEs (and I'm not saying that just because I plan the Webcasting for Minnesota CLE!). Who doesn't want to be known as an expert? Guy Kawasaki, Apple's former "Mac Evangelist," has some great tips about being a good panelist in his How to Change the World Blog. He should know, has been on a lot of big event panels over the years.
Here is a round-up of his tips:
- Know the subject
- Control your introduction
- Speak Up
- Entertain, don't just inform
- Tell the truth (especially when the truth is obvious)
- Answer the question that is posed, never limit yourself to the question posed
- Be plain simple and short
- Never look bored
- Never look at the moderator
- Never say "I agree with [insert name of other panelist]..."
