Do you use Google AdWords to help drive traffic to your website?  (If you don't you should think about looking into it as it is a relatively cheap and effient way to drive traffic, but that's another post.)  If so, Google has some tips about how to get the most out of AdWords.

Google AdWords is the pay-per-click service Google provides.  Through an auction, you purchase the ability for your website to be a sponsored link at the top of a relevant search.  You set the price you are willing to pay which will determine how often and how you are ranked in the relevant search.  You can set geographical boundaries and a host of other perameters to your search.  If you want to get the most out of Google AdWords, Google has some tips:

  • Expanding keywords: After adding keywords to their account, Adventures Cross Country saw a huge jump in impressions and a 55% increase in the number of people who filled out forms on their site:

  • Organizing ad groups: After creating tightly themed ad groups, ExecutiveChefEvents.com saw an influx of visitors to their site and a 140% increase in their click-through rate.

  • Testing new ads: After testing new ads, Studio 132 saw a 200% increase in CTR and a huge increase in phone calls for their services.

  • Adding negative keywords: After adding negative keywords to their campaigns, Galaxy Desserts, a maker of frozen confections, saw a 20% decrease in their cost-per-clicks (CPC).

  • Adjusting for first page bids: After raising some keyword bids to meet or exceed their first page bid recommendations, MoonKnight Networks saw their call volume shoot up by 200%, with a 270% increase in CTR.

Let me know if you are using Google AdWords and how it has helped (or not helped) your practice.
