One of the great ways to market yourself is to speak at CLEs (and I'm not saying that just because I plan the Webcasting for Minnesota CLE!).  Who doesn't want to be known as an expert?  Guy Kawasaki, Apple's former "Mac Evangelist," has some great tips about being a good panelist in his How to Change the World Blog.  He should know, has been on a lot of big event panels over the years.
