Collecting on Your Bill |

One thing I've been hearing from a lot of lawyers is that they have plenty of work, but they are having a harder time getting clients to pay their bills. This means a lot of lawyers are going to be thinking, in 2009 about how to collect on those bills. Law.com has a good article on the basics: If your firm has an accounts receivable management strategy, now is the time to re-evaluate that strategy -- from top to bottom -- in light of the economic climate. If you do not yet have a strategy -- how can I say this tactfully? -- what in the world are you waiting for? For the full article: Get Control Over Your Bill Collection--Now. This is something that we will, no doubt, be talking about further on SmallFirmSuccess.org. I would be very interested to hear your experiences: Are you having to do more collection work? What strategies have worked for you? What strategies have not? Are you instituting new policies - alternative billing, higher retainer fees, reduced fees - to cope with the issue? Let me know, I'd love to hear and we can start incorporating your experiences so we can all learn from each other. - Peter H. Berge
