I'm back from our annual solo/small firm conference, Strategic Solutions for Solo and Small Law Firms.

It was a great time in Duluth.  This was the seventh annual Strategic Solutions.  Every year it has grown in size and every year folks seemed to be pleased.  Judging by the numbers of people who have already signed up for next year's program it was a big hit again this year.  You can look up what people were saying about the conference by searching the hashcode #solosmall on Twitter - there were a lot of chirping little birds there!

We had some great speakers.  Ann Guinn got things off to a great start with really practical advice on how to succeed as a solo practitioner.  Carolyn Elefant who writes the MyShingle blog gave an inspring and invigorating plenary on how to exceed client's expectations.  Sam Glover of The Lawyerist blog had a great presentation on how to set oneself apart by innovating - then he ran off to attend the birth of his second child!  Matt Homann of LexThink rounded the program off with his best practice advice.

Besides those great plenaries, there was a wide selection of breakout sessions from a Criminal Law Update, to Maintaining Boundaries in Family Law, to Medical Assistance Update, to Security and Ethics in Cloud Computing....there was a lot.  You can see the brochure here:  Strategic Solutions Brochure.  I led an informal table top discussion on Website for lawyers and a breakout session on Online Research (I just posted my materials from the Online Research program).

A good time was had by all.  You might want to join us next year!
