Offline Gmail

Gmail is a great email service but it has always had the limitation that you had to actually have an Internet connection to actually use it...until now.

Google has just announced an offline Gmail.  You have for a while now been able to have offline access to Google Docs and Calendar through Google Gears.  Gears is an open source browser extension that allows the browser to save information it needs to run online apps even when you aren't connected to the Internet.  Google Labs has now extended Gears to work with Gmail as well.  If you use Gmail, this is a tremendous feature for those times when you do not have a connection or a reliable connection, say when traveling.
