I wasn't thinking of the passing of John Updike when I thought of the title, but it certainly hit me once i wrote it.  Perhaps sadness at the passing of such a true man of letters - and artist of letters - was what bubbled up from the unconscious.  "Letters" have changed now and though paper, the original database, shall never die, it is the electronic form that more runs our lives these days.
