For you iPhone users, now you can chuck that big, old, dusty tome and carry the whole Black's Law Dictionary on your iPhone or iPod Touch. The app features the most recent 8th edition of the definitive legal dictionary, edited by Bryan A. Garner.

The iPhone edition includes more than 43,000 definitions and nearly 3,000 quotations from legal authorities spanning five centuries of jurisprudence. It features hyperlinked cross-references and audio pronunciations for some of the more difficult to pronounce terms.

From Thompson-West's press release introducing the app:

"The new iPhone application for Black's Law Dictionary is very exciting," says Garner. "The idea that you can have a very full, elaborate, complex and richly textured book like Black's available at your fingertips is fantastic."

"Black's Law Dictionary was a logical choice for our first iPhone application," said Justin Hummel, director, New Product Development, West. "It's a perfect way for any legal professional or law student to take Black's with them wherever they go."

If you've gotten used to those $.99 and $1.99 iPhone apps, you're going to have a little sticker-shock here.  The Black’s Law Dictionary app is $49.99  through the  iPhone App Store
