If you are using Adobe Acrobat, you have a tremendous tool for organizing, identifying, and presenting evidence for a trial.  Rick Borstein has created a great tool to help with the process of marking exhibits.

Rick Borstein is a Business Development Manager specializing in the Acrobat-Legal Market for Adobe Systems Incorporated and he writes a great blog for lawyers:   Acrobat for Legal Professionals.  Anyone trying or thinking about going paperless should definitely check out Rick's blog.

Those of you going down the paperless road are already well positioned to use that technology to make your trial presentations better and easier.  You can start integrating the documentary evidence that you have scanned into a case organization database like CaseMap and into trial presentation software.

What Rick Borstein has done is created a small program that allows you to easily mark exhibits for trial in Acrobat.  Instead of having to print and then use exhibit stickers and then rescan the documents for electronic presentation at trial, you just mark them in Acrobat and you are done.  As Rick said about his inspiration for creating the program:

Only recently have I come across an elegant solution that can accomplish both steps with a click! When you stamp the document, Acrobat will ask you for the exhibit number, then stamp it on the document:

Rick placed the stamp on my Acrobat.com account.  You can download it by clicking here or preview and download it using the acrobat.com widget.  You may have to turn off your pop-up blocker to download the program.  His step by step directions also includes directions for downloading and installing.

UPDATE:

Rick recently posted an update and more extensive instructions on his site.
