Barron K. Henley, Esq. is an attorney, a "legal technologist" with 15 years of experience and a founding member of Henley March & Unger Consulting, Inc. We had the privilege of having Barron give his $6000 Law Firm talk at Minnesota CLE.
I love the way Barron describes his career trek: he practiced in a firm for several years after graduating from Ohio State's law school until his "inner geekdom" took over and he knew he would only be happy doing technology full time. He also claims, being a husband and the father of four daughters, that he is constantly out-voted at home. (Heck, I only have a wife to deal with and I'm constantly out-voted at home!)
Barron's program was excellent. He spent a day going through not only what to do, but what not to do purchasing technology for your law firm. Here are a couple of his tips:
- Windows 7 looks great but if XP or Vista are working for you on your machine, don't upgrade. Just wait until you buy a new machine that has Windows 7 installed. Upgrading introduces too many chances for problems.
- cNet's www.shopper.com is one of the best ways to to research on products and price. Search for a product and you'll find links to reviews and a list of the where to buy it with prices.
- Do you need cables? Check out to find any cable you need at the cheapest price
- How much does it REALLY cost to own a smartphone? Great chart here:
These are just a few examples of the practical wisdom that Barron brings to his presentations. If you get a chance to see Barron speak in your area, I recommend you do so.
