What Does it Mean - Lizard Taped to Door

OK, I read The Godfather, I understand waking up and finding a horse head in your bed is not a good thing, or dead fish on your door step, but what does this mean:  a lizard taped to your car door?

Colin Cook, an amateur photographer in Australia came back from photographing to find that someone had taped a lizard to his door.  The gallant Mr. Cook removed the lizard but couldn't get the tape off him at the site.  He took the lizard home and painstakingly released the poor beast from the tape with only the loss of a few scales.
